Honoring Our Border Collie Lucy Valentina

Since starting this blog, I’ve done my best to publish a post every week. Last week was particularly difficult as we said goodbye to our dear sweet border collie, Lucy Valentina. It didn’t feel right to carry on with another post without taking some time to honor her very special presence in our lives.
The pain in my heart since losing her is deeper than I could have imagined. She came into my life almost 9 years ago when I started dating Dennis. She was 10 years old at the time and still full of intense border collie energy. Never having had a dog or considering myself a dog person (I am now very much a dog person!), I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. Well, it took about 2 hours for Lucy to capture my heart and our bond continued to deepen from there.

Dennis adopted Lucy when she was 1.5 years old and she was by his side for the next 17.5 years. The special bond they shared made me love Dennis even more. She helped him through some very difficult times and was there for lots of wonderful times including our wedding.

She went with us on road trips, boat trips, pretty much anywhere we went, she went too. There’s no question she made any time a better time just because she was there spreading love and happiness all around.

She started to slow down in her old age and Dennis promised to give her a home in the country without any stairs a big yard. At the end of 2022 we moved to Vacaville and he fulfilled that promise. We loved seeing Lucy prancing happily around her yard and enjoying the peace and quiet here for her last year and a half. She turned 19 in March.

She was pure love. Our home is too quiet now without her little toes clicking on our floors and her soft snores. We are so heartbroken but, wow, we were so fortunate to have her with us for so long. I will always hold her in my heart and love my sweet, smart, goofy, beautiful redhead Lucy Goose.
Rest in peace sweet girl.
What a beautiful testament to your bond. My heart and prayers are with you. Loosing a pet is loosing a family member. Sending my prayers.
P.S. My favorite part of the video was the bath time shenanigans! I am glad you can cherish these memories.
Thank you, Alaina. I know you also lost a dear pet family member recently too.
It is very difficult but we are so fortunate to have so many great memories!
